I have a tradition of baking short-bread to give my students as a present at their first lesson in the New Year.  Some of you have asked for the recipe.  I've pasted it below.  This recipe came from a booklet of holiday cookie recipes that was an insert in the Dec. 1964 issue of "Woman's Day" magazine.  My mother, sisters and I made many of the recipes from this booklet each holiday season and yes, my mother saved a copy of the magazine with the insert for each of us. I still refer to my tattered copy of the 1964 issue every year when I make these cookies.  The shortbread recipe is so delicious and easy to make that my sisters and I would make it throughout the year for after-school snacks or for something extra on snow days.  I hope you'll enjoy this, too.
