HOME SCHOOL ORCHESTRA
WITH GREENSBORO STRINGS
WHAT:
A String Orchestra program for Home-Schoolers.
HOW THIS DEVELOPS DEPENDS ON INTEREST.
Instrumentation will be violin, viola, and cello. Bass may be added later.
The beginning orchestra would be similar to that offered in the public schools. Students would be instructed how to play their instruments during class time as well as how to read musical notation. Students who study privately but have not learned much about reading music would be invited to join this orchestra after the first few introductory weeks.
Depending on interest, we could also have an orchestra for more advanced students.
AGE: Age 8 and above.
WHO:
Eve Hubbard will conduct the classes.
To find out more about her, click on "Greensboro Strings Cooperative" above.
Classes will be part of Hubbard’s program, Greensboro Strings. This program operates within The Music Center, part of City Arts, a division of the Dept. of Parks and Recreation of the City of Greensboro.
WHERE:
The Cultural Arts Center at 200 N. Davie St., Greensboro, NC 27401.
Room TBA.
WHEN:
We’re hoping for class meeting time to be from 2:00 to 3:00 on one or two weekdays.
Two 14-week semesters.
If interest allows, summer classes, too.
COST:
HOW OFTEN THE GROUP MEETS DEPENDS ON THE PARTICPANTS.
A 14-week semester, meeting twice a week with at least 6 students—$300.00
A 14-week semester, meeting once a week with at least 6 students—$200.00
PURCHASING INTRUMENTS:
Students would buy or rent their own instruments. Hubbard owns a few low-cost small violins that students could buy.
Moore Music, a nearby retailer, has an excellent rent-to-own program.
