Hello to All of our Students and Families,

ONLINE INSTRUCTION HAS GONE MUCH BETTER THAN I EXPECTED!  I want to thank everyone for being so flexible.  There have been some good things happening.  I am glad to be able to report that every single student is making progress!  Even some of our most casual practicers have been working more productively. (What?) It seems that all of you parents are becoming even better home-teachers.  Dr. Suzuki would be very impressed with you!  I know that I am!  And another good thing is our health--NOT A SINGLE STUDENT HAS CANCELLED A LESSON FOR ILLNESS SINCE MARCH and it looks like this will be the first spring in about 30 years that I won't catch a cold from any of my students! Plus, most of the students have taken advantage of Smartmusic's free enrollment during the shut-down.  With Smartmusic, they can practice at any tempo with an accompaniment and the program will assess their intonation and their rhythm...it's like playing a video game while you practice!

We won't be able to have our Group Showcase Concert but I do want to recognize achievements and send certificates to those who have earned them.  Read about our categories at:

http://www.evehubbard.com/yearly-awards.php.

Let me know if you qualify for any of the awards.

LESSONS, GROUPS, AND RECITALS

WILL BE ON ZOOM

UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

I will use the same meeting number for everything.  Email or call me to get the meeting number.  I don't want to publish that number on the internet.  I sent an email today with the number and with a link that will get you into my "meeting room."

At the start of my teaching day, I will "start the meeting" and you can join at any time before the event you are attending whether it's your individual lesson, group lesson, recital or to observe.

Please be sure your mike is muted when you enter the meeting.  We'll unmute it when it's time for your lesson to begin.

TO EVERYONE:  RECITAL PLANS

I'd like us to do our best to have a recital experience online.  We'll keep the number of performers at each recital to around 10.  Lets make your recital an event as much like our live recitals as possible.  Create a nice setup for your performance area and dress up a bit. We'll have a mix of performance levels at each program and family members are invited to listen in. You can have your own little after-parties at home. You'll see a recital schedule below.  Let me know if you have a preference for recital day and time.  Otherwise I will assign one to you.

TO EVERYONE EXCEPT THOSE IN GROUP A:  USING SMARTMUSIC

Before your next lesson or group, please try to learn how to use SmartMusic as an accompaniment for a recital piece and plan to work on it at your next individual and group lessons.  Please ask me if you need help figuring out the program. You must have 2 devices to do this: one for the meeting and another to run SmartMusic. Please setup SmartMusic before the lesson in which you will use it.  If it is simply too frustrating, you may play your recital piece without it.

DURING THE SUMMER

If you like, I'll come to your neighborhood (probably on a Mon. evening) for a small, socially-distanced, short outdoor meeting in your yard or on your street.  Let me know if you want to do this.  (4 families told me last month that they wanted to do this.)

I'll bring the electric piano and a very long electrical cord.

Those of you who live near one another can make a reasonable group. (Some families are almost a group unto themselves.)

Who has a good spot for no more than 10 students to play for/with each other?

Keep in mind that performers need to be in the shade.

We'll aim for Mon. evenings but Thur. & Fri. evenings would also work.
